FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Richard Perry

In January, 2008 the 301 Central Education Foundation officially began fulfilling its mission by providing support for innovative programs and equitable opportunities for all District 301 students. Today, the need is as great as it has ever been; our aspirations remain centered, our energies remain robust, and our commitment remains solid.”

Richard Perry,
Central Education Foundation Chairman

Richard Perry, Chairman

2010 Letter from the Chairman

It’s easy to become overwhelmed by all the apparent bad news confronting our schools today. Millions of dollars in unpaid state aid combined with program and activity reductions necessitated by overburdened budgets resonate in today’s headlines. Many within our community, including those to whom we often turn for financial resource, are also experiencing similar stresses and challenges. Frustration and hopelessness are emotions to which we might all too easily succumb.

Given all this doom and gloom, it has consistently been my great joy and pleasure to regularly meet and work with the 301 Central Education Foundation’s Board of Directors. They are irrepressibly upbeat and positive; they invest themselves in giving their all on behalf of the students in our district; and they appear tireless in their efforts to fundraise much needed dollars for our classrooms.

In spite of the current climate of despair, it has also been my great honor to work with so many within our school system who dedicate additional time and extra effort to help offset some of the difficulties confronting our students. After-school projects, contributions through the “Cents for Kids” program, and academic as well as social assistance well beyond any standard of expectation are but a few of the ways I’ve observed Central’s staff, faculty and administrators demonstrate their commitment.

Numerous contributors have also risen above the financial din in their support of the Foundation’s efforts. From supporting our annual Trivia-Schmivia fundraiser to donating dollars earmarked for scholarships, local business leaders and generous individuals have ensured that every student will be afforded vital learning opportunities. All students are assured access to field trips and school events even when their personal resources are limited. Innovative programs continue to be supported annually through mini-grant allocations. The spirit of giving has not been deterred. There may be ominous clouds hovering about our spirit, but there remains a warm and uplifting glow within Central’s classrooms.

Sincerely,

Richard Perry

Richard M. Perry, 2010 Chairman
